Joan is an accomplished sportswoman and represented South Australia in Netball.

In her professional career she was SA Mannequin of the year (1967) and Model of the year (1968). Joan worked extensively throughout Australia for David Jones and in 1976 travelled to Japan as an Ambassador for the Australian Wool Corporation.

Highlights as a singer and television presenter included working with Don Lane, Mike Walsh and Ray Martin and as support act for Bob Hope, Harry Secombe, Barry Crocker and Kamahl, and entertaining Australian troops in Vietnam. In the 1980’s Joan performed in Royal Command performances for Prince Charles and Princess Diana and for her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip during the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

Contracted to the Nine Network’s The Today Show as a presenter/producer she also worked at the Ten Network as host of ‘til TEN and Monday to Friday.

Lady Hardy is former Patron of the Australian Cranio-Facial Foundation, currently a Patron of the Australian Ladies Variety Association (ALVA), and Patron of the Flinders Medical Research Foundation Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Ball. Lady Hardy has been a Board member of the Adelaide Festival Theatre Foundation since 2001.
